What does Berean mean?
In the book of Acts, people from a town called Berea were commended because they "searched the Scriptures" to see if what they were being taught was true (Acts 17:11). So calling ourselves "Berean" is a way of saying the Bible is our truth authority.
Our Pastor
Imperial Berean welcomed Pastor Matt Maxwell in June of 2011. Prior to entering the ministry, Pastor Matt taught high school history and English while coaching multiple sports for 12 years. While teaching he was involved in leading worship and youth programs in his local church. Upon deciding to enter the pastoral ministry, Pastor Matt attended Calvary Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO, graduating in May of 2011 with a Master of Divinity.
Pastor Matt enjoys studying in preparation for sermons, including examining the original languages, and trying to present what the Lord has taught him through the studying process to the congregation on Sundays. He tries to make his sermons engaging and entertaining, without sacrificing the challenges presented by the true word.
Pastor Matt grew up in Beloit, Kansas. His wife, Rachel, grew up near Superior, Nebraska and they enjoy the close-knit, small town life Imperial offers. They are empty-nesters who raised three children: Isaac, Adelaide and Cedric.
